Founder of the Rolling Stones: Brian Jones

After a slow, drawn-out estrangement from the band members and multiple drug convictions, he was forced out of the band that he had created. Shortly after leaving the Stones, he was found lifeless in his swimming pool and pronounced dead at the scene

Scottish Guitarist & Brother to Alex Harvey

In 1969, Harvey helped form the band, Stone the Crows. During a performance in England in 1972, it rained, creating puddles on stage and soaking the band, and when Harvey touched an ungrounded microphone with wet hands, he was electrocuted and welcomed into the 27 club.

The Grateful Dead Founder: Ron Mckernan

Most famously known as Pigpen, lived the rockstar life, but it came at a price. While most of the band experimented with psychedelic drugs, McKernan favored alcohol...so much so that he began to suffer liver damage. He also suffered from symptoms of an uncommon autoimmune disease

Chris Austin, who is most famous for playing with Ricky Shagg’s and Reba McEntire’s bands, met his fate while on tour. Warner Bros. Records signed this country singer, who went on to produce three tracks that made it to the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Nirvana quickly became a popular band among Generation X. However, the lead singer’s music wasn’t the only thing people were talking about. Cobain was plagued with personal problems that made its way into the public eye. As Nirvana’s success grew and Cobain’s personal life took the spotlight, he suffered with depression, a heroin addiction, and other health issues.

Rapper Stretch Joins the Club

The New York rapper and hip hop producer Randy Walker, most commonly known as Stretch, made his way into the 27 club when he had a fatal encounter while on the road. In the 80s, Stretch and his brother Majesty formed the group Live Squad

Death by Wine: Amy Winehouse

Winehouse stumbled into her home, appearing intoxicated according to her bodyguard. Before her death, she spent her time watching TV, listening to music, and having a good time, and after passing out, she never woke up. She was confirmed dead of alcohol poisoning, landing her in the 27 club. The following year, Winehouse was named number 26 of 100 greatest women in music by VH1.

Honorable Mentions; Raymond Rogers

Famous electric guitarist, singer, and songwriter Jimi Hendrix overdosed on his partner’s sleeping pills, and aspirated his own vomit in his sleep, resulting in his death. Given his popularity in the music industry, it’s no surprise he’s on the list.

Janis Joplin, lead singer and songwriter for three different blues bands, was found dead of a heroin overdose in her hotel room after she didn’t appear for a recording session.
