Randy Couture

Before he became a UFC champion, and before he starred as Tollroad in The Expendables, Randy Couture served in the U.S. Army from 1982 to 1988. He was a sergeant in the 101st Airborne, and while there did some wrestling and some boxing, which would eventually lead to him pursuing a career in the UFC later on.

James Earl Jones

That's right, Darth Vader was in the U.S. Army during the early '50s. Jones was expecting to be sent to Korea, but instead he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and sent to Camp Hale in Colorado to set up a cold weather training command. During his down time, Jones worked for a theatre as a part-time stage hand. After his discharge, he went on to pursue his acting career, one day becoming the fearsome Sith lord we all know and love.

Steve McQueen

In Hollywood, Steve McQueen joined the U.S. Marine Corps... and fell right back into his old habits of rebelling against authority, being demoted back to Private 7 times while there. honorably discharged in 1950, using the money from the G.I. Bill to start his acting career, and the rest is history.

Elvis Presley

The king of rock, and possibly one of the most impersonated celebrities of all time also served his country, completely under his own free-will, he chose to serve his country from 1958 to 1960, being conscripted at Fort Chaffee, in Arkansas. He said that he just wanted to be treated like any other soldier, saying "The Army can do anything it wants with me."

Mr. T

I pity the fool who doesn't believe Mr. T wasn't in the Army. Lawrence Trueaud had the will power to pull himself out of the crap-hole and make something of himself. After graduating high school, he went to college for a year before dropping out of that and then joining the Army instead.

George Carlin

George Carlin, served in the US Air Force during the '50s, though his was court martialed three times and was discharged early. During his time in the Air Force, he was called "unproductive"... so why did he join? For the G.I. Bill that helped kickstart his career on stage.

MC Hammer

Long before MC Hammer was untouchable and dazzled crowds all over the world with his dance moves and clean rapping style, the Oakland California native donned his navy blues and served in the US military.

Rod Serling

Despite all these celebrities serving in the military, the truth is... very few ever saw real combat on the front lines. However, the creator and main writer of The Twilight Zone, Rod Serling, did. Serling joined the Army to fight the Nazis, but was instead sent to the Pacific to fight the Japanese.
