-- disappearances. Threatening phone calls. Unexplainable events. Murders. The magnitude of a hoax and a cover up was shown in many TV shows as well as in real life.

Remember the civilization of giants which was presumingly found in Romania? In 1940, archeologists and locals discovered a massive skull that was way over the regular size limit. The researchers later dug up around 80 similar sized skeletons and large ceramic pots.

Villagers in Romania also discovered a giant size skull, complete skeletons, pottery, jewelry and 3 feet tall metal statues.

The stories gained momentum and the public was curious. A local news channel decided to dig deeper and started an investigation in 2009. Right before their report was going to stream live, they received a threatening phone call, saying they were “playing a dangerous game.”

And some mysteries aren’t always discovered. The mysterious disappearance of Madeleine McCann took the Internet by storm. If you’re not familiar with the story, let us give you a few quick facts: Madeleine McCann was just 3 years old when she got kidnapped from an apartment complex while her parents dined in a restaurant a couple of feet away.

Several reports have been made that the parents, Kate and Gary McCann, sedated their children so that they could go out and have dinner with their friends.

Another popular theory states that the parents anticipated Madeleine’s kidnapping as her mother’s reaction seemed a bit.. Odd.

Speaking of some of the most elaborate cover ups, perhaps the biggest of them all has to be Area 51. We have yet to discover what is happening inside this mysterious base and many won’t give up until they get to the bottom of this story.

Everyone remembers when Area 51 leaked a video of what seemed like an actual interview with an alien. But is it?

But in a bizarre ending to the story, the jury declared the scandal as a “a carefully crafted hoax” and since then, several offenders, including Lawrence E King, were released from prison.

The last one on our list is Bobby Thompson, the man who fooled everyone by running a fake U.S. Navy Veterans Association charity in Tampa and raised over 100 million dollars. The hoax was discovered after it was proven Thompson stole money from the account and used stolen identities to cover his involvement. Okay, so the case seems pretty open and shut, right?
